Students from Court Fields School in Wellington attended the Taunton School Year 7 Maths Challenge last week and came fifth out of 12 teams, missing out on fourth place by one point.

Wellington among three fire crews working to free horse trapped in farm slurry pitStudent William Bailey said: “We started the day working out how much it would cost to re-turf their field – we were running around the field measuring distances with a trundle wheel, trying not to get wet!
“We then completed a really fun Sudoku puzzle but instead of numbers we had to place different flags and different courses for a meal. It really made us think –and made us hungry!
“After that was a mental maths challenge – we had lots of questions to answer without a calculator! We finished with a treasure hunt and a relay race.
“We didn’t stop working and we were having so much fun the morning flew by. It was such a fun day and we learnt lots of different ways of thinking mathematically. The food was also really amazing!”
