DIAMOND wedding couple Derek and Diana Searle of Waterloo Road, Wellington, met at a dance in Taunton in 1957.

Derek worked on a farm in Chard and Diana at the maternity home in Wellington. They were married at St John’s Church, Wellington, on April 4, 1959, by Rev Lloyd.

Derek and Diana continued to work on farms in Somerset, Devon and Dorset all their working lives, and returned to live in Wellington when they retired in 1992.

They have four children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and are expecting their fourth great-grandchild later this year.

Diana is the third generation on her side of the family to celebrate a diamond anniversary. Her grandparents, Mr and Mrs Wide of Owen Street, Wellington, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 26, 1954, and went on to celebrate 66 years of marriage.

Diana’s parents, Mr & Mrs Cross of Waterloo Road, were also married at St John’s in Wellington and celebrated their 60th anniversary on July 22, 1991.

Diana and Derek said: “Being married for 60 years we have many happy memories.”
