SHOPPERS are being warned to be on their guard after a handbag containing £100 was stolen from a vehicle in the car park at Asda in Wellington.

The victim, who is 89 and disabled, had left her bag in a blue Ford Fiesta last Thursday (September 23) at 10.30am when she walked a few yards to go and get a parking ticket. She also had her purse, credit cards and Covid card taken, as well as items of sentimental value.

The woman, who lives at Duke’s Court in Wellington, was driving for only the second time after having an eye cataract operation: “I hope the thief has the courage to return the bag and personal articles,” she said.

The manager at Duke’s Court promptly cancelled the victim’s cards after the incident.

Wellington Police say they have visited the victim and CCTV enquiries are being made in a bid to identify a possible suspect.

Anyone who was in the Asda/Longforth Road car park area between 10.20am and 10.40am on Thursday, September 23, should call 101 and quote crime ref 5221221986 if they have any information about the incident or if they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area between those times.
