Police who stopped a driver reported to be swerving between lanes on the M5 found he was over the drink-drive limit.
The van driver was reported to police and was stopped by a police patrol on Saturday night.
One officer shared a report of the incident and said the van was seen being driven at more than 100mph.
The driver was later breath-tested and found to have an alcohol level at more than twice the legal limit.
A tweet on the Devon and Cornwall Police - No Excuse Twitter account said: "999 call reporting a possible drink driver on the M5 - found by us, speeds in excess of 100mph, swerving between the lanes - vehicle stopped - driver has no licence and has been told by the DVLA not to drive - clearly under the influence - blown over in custody #NoExcuse#Fatal5 "
There are five main causes of serious injuries and deaths on the region’s roads – known as the ‘fatal five’:
• Excess or inappropriate speed
• Not wearing a seatbelt
• Driving using your mobile phone
• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Careless or inconsiderate driving
A spokesperson said: "Around 98 per cent of collisions are caused by human error, with only two per cent caused by unavoidable issues, such as mechanical failure.
"Devon & Cornwall Police’s Roads Policing team work hard to educate road users and patrol the roads of the counties to prevent avoidable heartache."
