MORE than 100 adults and children turned out at Wellington Basins for a duck race, despite an overcast start to the day.

The occasion was enhanced with the arrival of the town’s Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Gary James and his wife Bea, who led Wellington Majorettes marching and playing music at the start of the afternoon before the race.

The winning duck was number 108 belonging to Imogen Hill in record time, in second was Ian Shorney (duck number 121) and third was Tom Brazier (duck number 105).

Everyone who took part was given an Easter egg and could also decorate a tile to take home.

The afternoon finished with a surprise presentation of Indian dancing. Avtar and his partner Ann displayed their fine costume and encouraged everyone to join in some Bollywood fun – ably supported by the Mayor, Mayoress, parents and children.

The winner of a sweepstake to guess the winning time was Bernard Saunders, who went for 11mins 55secs.

The Wellington Basins Volunteer Group (WBVG) committee would like to thank everyone who supported the event. All money raised will go towards the maintenance of the Basins area.

In particular, the WBVG would like to thank John Andrews and Ian Brewer for clearing the stream and surrounding area, Mike Russell for his fine Exmoor art exhibition and Terry Milton for the use of his PA system.
