TAUNTON Deane MP Rebecca Pow met Wellington Mayor Cllr Gary James to present him with a gift for the town museum.

Ms Pow’s gift was a book by current Duke of Wellington Charles Wellesley, filled with portraits and paintings of his great ancestor the First Duke of Wellington.

The book is the first of its kind to be produced in about 80 years, when Charles Wellesley’s grandfather produced a book.

A national icon, the First Duke of Wellington has more portraits in the National Portrait Gallery than any other historic figure.

Ms Pow said: “I am proud to be able to gift this special book to the Museum of Wellington to enable many generations to continue to learn more about the history of Wellington and, indeed, our iconic Wellington Monument.

“I feel honoured to have this association not only with the First Duke of Wellington but with the current Duke himself.”
