VISITORS and members enjoyed hot drinks and a chat at the drop-in meeting in December, browsing through the resources, discussing concerns and exploring coping strategies.

Drop-ins are held on the first Saturday of each month in the Meeting Room at Taunton Library, Paul Street, from 10am-noon. The first meeting of 2017 is on Saturday, January 7.

The friendly meetings are run by volunteers who all have considerable experience of dyslexia, including parents experienced in supporting children in school, adults with knowledge of dyslexia and specialists who can advise on assessments, tutoring and IT support. Membership is not necessary, everyone is welcome and no charge is made. Adult support group members also meet at the same venue to access the wide range of resources.

Dr Gavin Reid and Dr Jennie Guise will be speaking on ‘Dyslexia: Identifying and Dealing with the Barriers to Learning, Working Memory, Information Processing and Effective Learning, plus: Ideas and guidance for teachers and parents’, at the SDA May Conference on Thursday, May 25.
