A KEEN group of parents gathered at Oake, Bradford and Nynehead C of E School for a Spring Tidy Up Day.

The group worked hard, making a huge difference to many areas of the school, especially the Early Years outdoor area. An overgrown section was cleared and replaced with a new mud kitchen.

Elsewhere in the school, old benches were removed and replaced with new ones, purchased by the Friends of Oake Bradford & Nynehead; store cupboards cleared out; equipment power-washed; and two new poly-tunnels constructed.

All the children were involved in the day, with the younger classes sprucing up areas around the school while the older class carried out a litter pick around the village.

The organisers are extremely grateful to everyone involved, particularly Ed Livesey from RGB Building Supplies in Wiveliscombe for arranging the donation of eight sleepers, and Graeme Hake for the loan of his digger and for trundling a load of soil over from his driveway to fill the mud kitchen.

Headteacher Nick Gilding said: “I am constantly delighted and amazed by the support we receive from parents and the wider community. Our Tidy Up Day has been great for the school – it was wonderful for the children to see others helping them, as well as having the opportunity to contribute themselves.”
