FOUR Wellington mothers who have to send their children to school in Taunton because no places are available in town schools say the situation is causing their families severe problems.
The mums, who were placed in social housing in school mid-term and have six children, say the cost of bus fares means they are having to cut back on essential household items and that their youngsters’ welfare is being damaged.
Wellington town and county councillor Andrew Govier recently highlighted the mums’ problems in the WWN. Now one of the mothers, who the WWN is not naming, said: “The majority of us are single mums with long-term health conditions – anxiety, fibromyalgia and thyroid disease.
“We ended up in Wellington following domestic violence, homelessness due to rent increases and landlords selling up. The choice was: ‘Take the property or make yourself voluntarily homeless’.
“To then find our children can’t get into any local primary school added to an already stressful situation.”
