Somerset West and Taunton Council will be showing its support for the Armed Forces by holding two flag-raising ceremonies on Monday, June 13.

Services will be hosted at Deane House in Taunton by the Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Sue Lees, and West Somerset House in Williton by the Chair of Somerset West and Taunton Council, Councillor Hazel Prior-Sankey.

The Armed Forces Day flag will be flown leading up to National Armed Forces Day on Saturday June 25.

Councillor Hazel Prior-Sankey said: “We are proud to fly the Armed Forces Day flag as a mark of our respect and support for the Armed Forces whether past or presently serving.

“It also serves as an opportunity to say thank you to the wider Armed Forces community including reserves, veterans, cadets and families for the sacrifices and the contribution they have made and continue to make to the nation and local communities.”

Residents wishing to pay their own tributes can find out more at armedforcesday.org.uk/get-involved.

They can also show their support at the Somerset Armed Forces Day community event in Vivary Park and Wilton Lands on Saturday July 2.

The free to attend event is open to all with a variety of stalls, exhibitions, military vehicles, helicopters, parachutes, and an exciting timetable of displays in the main arena including the Military Wives Choir, marching bands, and historic re-enactments.
