WIVELISCOMBE Primary School has been named a finalist in the Somerset Career Awards 2025.
Nominated as one of the best careers focussed primary schools in the county, Wiveliscombe Primary School has been recognised for its work to embed career-related learning into primary education.
The school was part of a pilot programme entitled Start Small; Dream Big, which aimed to introduce children to the world of work from an early age, raising aspirations and helping pupils understand how their learning connects to future careers.
Since taking part in the pilot, Wiveliscombe Primary School has continued to embed the principles of career-related learning (CRL) across the curriculum, with pupils regularly engaging with local employers and exploring different job sectors.
Headteacher, Mrs Lucy Crowe said: “We are honoured to be recognised as finalists in the awards.
“Taking part in the 'Start Small; Dream Big' programme was a turning point for our school. We’ve seen first-hand how early careers learning raises aspirations and gives children the tools and confidence to explore their potential.
“This work hasn’t stopped with the pilot — it’s become part of who we are as a school.”
Mrs Crowe added: “We want every child to leave us believing in their own potential.
“This work is about more than jobs — it’s about building ambition, confidence, and a sense of purpose that will last a lifetime.”
The Somerset Careers Awards are an annual celebration of the work that takes place throughout the county to prepare young people for the workplace and excite them about the career possibilities in the region and beyond.
Twelve award categories highlight the range of work and achievements of education institutions, businesses and young people in Somerset, including the Inspiring the Next Generation Award, and the Young Person of the Year.
Award winners will be announced at a celebratory ceremony at Taunton Rugby Football Club on Thursday, July 10
