IN A race against time, the emergency services fought to free casualties from wrecked cars littering a road at Chelston on Sunday in one of the worst traffic collisions ever seen in the area.
But the carnage was not for real.
Fire crews from Wellington and Wiveliscombe, together with crews from Dulverton and Taunton, worked alongside colleagues from the police, ambulance and volunteers from St John Ambulance Brigade to carry out a simulated road traffic collision exercise aimed at improving the skills of the men and women whose job it is to deal with the most horrific incidents on our roads.
