THE achievements of students at Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe, over the past academic year were celebrated at its annual presentation evening.

Students, parents, staff and governors attended the event and awards were presented for academic subject and sport accomplishments. Headteacher and year head commendations were also awarded together with the following school trophies: Malachy McLay (Year 9) – The Peter Mullan Rotary Cup for Excellent Progress in the Enrichment Centre; Eleanor Redish (Year 10) – The George Heath Memorial Trophy for Excellent Progress in Music; Lilli-Rose Stenning (Year 10) – The Wiveliscombe Book Group Award for Endeavour; Connie Woods-Gundry (Year 10) – The Wiveliscombe Book Group Award for History; Marnie Chisnall (Year 8) – The Emma Harris Award for Reading; Jago Yelland (Year 8) – The 10 Radio Award; Maddie Shaw and Jack Odams (Year 10) – The Paul Cups for outstanding all-round contribution to school sport.

Guests enjoyed musical interludes from Eleanor Redish, who performed ‘Rondo’ on the piano; Lilymay Nicholls, who sang ‘On My Own’; and Emily Raisey who sang ‘I Dreamed a Dream’.

The school was also pleased to welcome guest speaker and former Kingsmead student Beth French, who inspired the audience with her story of how she overcame illness as a teenager to become an accomplished long distance endurance swimmer.
