A 24-HOUR golf marathon will be held at the end of the month as part of a £60,000 fundraiser for Cancer Research UK.
Ros Wills has challenged herself to raise the great sum in line with her 60th birthday, following the sudden death of her husband Andrew Gadd from cancer in 2020.
The golf marathon, which will take place from Friday, July 25, until Saturday, July 26, at Oake Manor Golf Club, is set to be the first of several fundraising events to take place, including a barn dance on September 19, and a ball on February 7.
Ros said: “2025 is a significant year for me as it has been five years since my husband and local business man Andrew Gadd passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from cancer.
“I am lucky enough to be celebrating a significant birthday, and instead of a big party, I have set myself a personal challenge to raise £60,000 for Cancer Research UK through various events, including a Barn Dance in September, a Grand Ball in February, and a golf day at Oake Manor Golf Club.”
So far, Ros has raised upwards of £11,000, and said she is elated by the response.
She added: “I feel quite emotional about the amazing response so far from all our friends and acquaintances, along with the incredible support and commitment from the fellow golfers who are joining me in this challenge.
“Golf was one of the passions in Andrew’s life. Following our first holiday together, he said to me – ‘I’m glad you came on holiday with me, it would have been boring playing golf by myself.’ So, you can see this is why I had to include golf events in my plans.
“It just felt right to me to try to give something back as I celebrate being fortunate to reach a milestone birthday.”
