WELLINGTON residents have been encouraged to ‘rock out’ in 1940s vintage-style clothing to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
On Saturday, June 1, the town will come together for a war-era themed street fair and the council has encouraged people to dress up with “a bit of forties feel.”
The fair is set to include as many as 80 local traders, as well as a swing and jazz band providing entertainment.
On Saturday, June 8, the town of Wiveliscombe is also set to turn out in style when local members of the Royal British Legion don their own 1940s costumes at an assembly in the town square.

Organisers said there was also a ‘rumour’ that ‘Winston Churchill’ could make an appearance at the ceremony - and a ‘guess Churchill’s weight’ fairground-style game.
The event hopes to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
The 80th anniversary of D-Day takes place on Thursday, June 6, which Wellington will mark with the lighting of a beacon in the park at 9.15pm.
