THE cost of providing an evening bus service by Buses of Somerset from Wellington to Taunton is too much.

Wellington town councillors were told on Monday that an evening bus service between the towns on Monday to Saturday would cost £130 a day, or £175 a day for Friday and Saturday only.

Councillors described these quotes as ‘too expensive and outrageous’ and decided not to proceed.

The council has been looking at the lack of a regular bus service to and from Taunton in the evenings since March.

This has been a matter of some concern to the council since the cessation of WebberBus services.

As a result discussions had taken place with appropriate county council officers regarding the possibility of the town council perhaps sponsoring an evening service into Taunton.
