WELLINGTON play three matches at the Athletic Ground in the next eight days, including the much anticipated Somerset Cup quarter-final against Bridgwater and Albion next Wednesday, March 2 (7.30pm).

"Weather permitting, we’re expecting our biggest crowd of the season for the tie against Albion," said Wellington coach Allyn Chetland.

The teams played each other on the opening day of the season in South West One (W) with Wellington winning 13-10 away. Since then both sides have found it tough going in the division with Bridgwater bottom and Wellington two places above them.

However, there is no relegation at the end of this season because the leagues are to be restructured.

Meanwhile, Wellington begin their mini-run of home games with a match against second-placed Chew Valley tomorrow (2.30pm). They will be looking to avenge a 50-26 loss away to Valley - a scoreline which flattered the home side - in mid-September.

Wellington’s third home game in eight days will be against Keynsham tomorrow week. Wellington lost 39-10 when they played away to their rivals in early November.

Wellington 2nd XV, whose home game against their Keynsham counterparts in Somerset One last weekend was called off because of bad weather, have no game this weekend.

They play again on Saturday, March 5, when they are away to Old Sulians who are enjoying a good season and are third in the table.

Wiveliscombe, who lost 12-5 away to Tiverton in Western Counties West last Saturday, are also without a first team fixture this weekend while their successful 2nd XV are away to Wells.

Wiveliscombe are lying second in the table, 11 points behind leaders Chard. They have two matches in hand over the South Somerset outfit while Wells are fourth and still have an outside chance of a top-two finish.

* Wellington have had five points deducted in South West One (W) after they pulled out of their game at St Austell last weekend because they could not field a side. "With all the bad weather around we were down on numbers," said Allyn Chetland. "I think we had 12 players unavailable."

It means Wellington dropped a place in the table.

* WEDNESDAY night’s Somerset Cup match between Wellington and Bridgwater & Albion is likely to see Matt Ranson returning to the Athletic Ground, a place he called home between 2009/10 and 2013-14.

Ranson came up through the mini, junior and colts teams at Bridgwater before making his senior debut against Nuneaton in April 1995 when he was still only 16 years old. He went on to become a first team regular and played at scrum half for the Somerset XV in the County Shield Final against Warwickshire in 2006.

After his spell at Wellington he returned to Bridgwater where Ranson is still a regular first teamer and has just notched up his 250th senior appearance for the club.
