BUS routes and a school have closed due to icy roads and hazardous weather conditions around the Wellington area.

The Met Office have placed a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across the Westcountry which will continue into tomorrow (Tuesday, January 6).

Churchstanton Primary School confirmed on the morning of Monday (January 5) that they would be closed for the day due to severe weather and hazardous travel conditions.

The school said in a statement: “The decision to close was made following advice on icy roads and heavy snowfall, prioritising the safety of our students, families, and staff.”

The school anticipates to reopen on Tuesday (January 6) but will “monitor the situation closely”.

Bus routes to Uffculme School were also affected by the icy road conditions.

The Uff28 bus which takes pupils from Blackborough, Sheldon, Uffculme, Ashill and Craddock to Uffculme School will not operate today (Monday, January 5).

The Uff16 route is still operating but is not able to serve all of the stops on the route.

It will only run for the Uplowman and The Globe stops.

Devon County Council “apologises” for the inconvenience.
