VILLAGERS in Nynhead could know the fate of their local primary school on Wednesday, December 17 following a key meeting of Somerset County Council's executive board.

Members of the board are expected to decide whether to proceed to the next stage of a controversial proposal to combine Oake and Bradford Community School with Nynehead Church of England School ending 150 years of schooling in Nynehead.

While the proposal has the full support of the governing body of the schools, feelings among parents of children at the school has been running high.

Nynehead parish council has voted to oppose plans to close the village school, and hundreds of people signed a petition supporting moves to keep it open.

The schools have been operating with a federated governing body and one head teacher, Angela Bridgeland, since January 2006.
