A FIFTH man has been arrested after a 28-year-old man was left with serious head injuries following a serious assault in Wellington in the early hours of Saturday morning, police said today.
The incident, which involved two groups of men, took place just before 1am.
Officers said the victim was first assaulted near Cornhill in North Street, and then again a few minutes later near Wellington fire station in North Street.
The victim is being treated in hospital for his injuries. Police have not released his name, or where he is being treated.

Four were arrested soon afterwards, and later released on police bail.
Witnesses are still being sought by officers investigating the incident.
