Fitness fans have been getting back in the groove at Wellington Sports Centre after it re-opened in July following four months of lockdown because of Covid-19.

Everyone Active, which runs the centre along with two leisure centres and a swimming pool in Taunton with Somerset West and Taunton Council, is employing one-way systems, enhanced cleaning regimes and structured sessions to keep users safe.

Numbers through the doors show that members have been keen to get back in the gym, with 85 per cent of fitness suite users returning to the gyms across the centres.

Group exercise classes have been operating at more than 72 per cent capacity and additional classes have been added to the timetable.

And since the swimming pools fully re-opened across the leisure centres in August, lessons are at more than 81 per cent capacity and lane swimming has seen more than 5,532 visits.

Everyone Active contract manager Mark Washington said: “The response we’ve received from our members has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re so pleased to see many new and returning members through our doors.

“Our doors are open to everyone and we are happy to provide tours for anyone who would like to visit our centres to see the changes we have implemented to keep everyone safe.”
