PEOPLE in Holyoake Street, Wellington are reacting angrily after plans for a three-storey block of apartments, branded a "monstrosity" by local residents, were agreed yesterday.

Wellington among three fire crews working to free horse trapped in farm slurry pitSocial housing group Magna has been given the go-ahead by Taunton Deane Borough Council's planning committee to demolish 15 bungalows and replace them with a modern block of of 16 two-bedroom sheltered apartments, 20 two-bedroom general needs apartments, and one meeting room on a site at 34-62, Holoyoake Street.
The scheme has been condemned by local people and by Wellington town councillors, who said the proposed housing scheme was out of character and too big when they discussed the designs at the March meeting of the council.
