A FLYING instructor from Dunkeswell hopes to break his own Guinness World Record later this summer by taking to the sky in more than 50 aircraft in one day.
The current record stands at 43 but Jim Greenshields is hoping to surpass this by taking 50 up to 2,000ft and back solo on August 4.
Jim will be attempting the record to raise funds and awareness for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK – a charity that grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
He has more than 11,000 hours flying time logged in excess of 200 different aircraft types including vintage, aerobatic and modern, and has raised thousands of pounds for Make-A-Wish over the years.
“We set the record of 43 aircraft in 2014 to raise funds for Make-A-Wish but ran out of aircraft with daylight still left, so this year we are again appealing to all aircraft owners to lend their aircraft to help raise some cash for this fabulous charity and have a grand day out with tea and buns at the same time!”
The record attempt will start 30 minutes before daybreak on Saturday, August 4, and finish 30 minutes after sunset with each fixed-wing aircraft having had to have been flown solo to 2,000ft and back. August 11 will be the back-up date if the weather is poor.
But Jim really does need the support of all aircraft owners to make this record attempt succeed.
“Please help me raise funds for this fantastic charity that helps to fulfil these children’s magical wishes which are sometimes so small and simple it just needs someone to organise it,” he said.
