THE Wellington distribution hub of Taunton Foodbank was set to re-open last week at the United Reformed Church in Fore Street.

The facility has been closed for months in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic with clients receiving food from a delivery service run by both Taunton Foodbank volunteers and a volunteer team put together by Linda Foster and Andy Govier.

Clients can now collect their food from the church on Thursdays from 1.30-2.30pm. They still need to contact their voucher-issuing agency to ensure a pack of food is reserved for them and can do so by phoning the office on 07761 624216 or emailing [email protected]

The service is collection only with clients receiving their food at the door. A spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately, we will be unable to offer teas and coffees inside the building. We hope that in the future we will be able to resume this more personal service but social distancing measures make it impossible at the moment.”

She added: “Trussell Trust foodbanks have been extremely busy over the last few months, feeding families especially. The Christian charity is very grateful for all the generous donations that have come in during this time. The depot at Taunton has never been so full but with hard times possibly to come, we have never been so prepared.”
