SCORES of drivers in Wellington are being forced to find alternative parking spaces following the closure of the town's biggest free car park to make way for a new superstore.
Early arrivals at the old Kwik Save car park on Monday found spaces on the streets of the Sylvan Road trading estate, but others were forced to find parking further afield on nearby roads.
One local who had been parking in the car park free since Kwik Save closed five years ago, said: "We've been fortunate to have a free car park for so long.
"But even so, closing it without any real warning has come as a shock."
The closure of the car park heralds the start of development of the new Somerfield superstore at the semi derelict site behind High Street.
