VISITORS to Wellington Museum are getting the chance to have unusual objects found in local gardens or in the countryside evaluated by experts.
Wellington Museum & Local History Society is planning a 'finds identification day' as part of the Festival of British Archaeology when historians will be on hand to identify items brought in by local people.
Colin Spackman, Museum Curator, said "Wellington and its surrounding area has a rich archaeological past and we often hear from people who have dug up interesting finds in their garden or found items while out walking.
"Visitors to Wellington Museum have an unrivalled opportunity to get a professional opinion on their archaeological discoveries.
"Somerset County Council's finds liaison officer, Laura Burnett, will be on hand to identify and record items, such as old coins, shards of pottery or metal objects."
The event, which is free, is taking place on Wednesday, July 18 between 4pm-7pm in the Museum, which is opposite Lloyds Bank on Fore Street in Wellington.
