A ‘VERY special year’ for Wellington in 2025 has been rounded off with a video compiled by the town council looking back on the past 12 months.
And the council has forecast for 2026, ‘there is still more to come’.
A council spokesperson said: “This year has absolutely flown by.
“We have made a short video to look back on some of this year's biggest accomplishments, we hope you enjoy.
“Looking ahead to 2026 there is still more to come.
“If you want to stay up to date with all the work we are doing, we highly recommend that you follow us across our social media platforms or sign up to our newsletter.”
The year of 2025 saw the town council take ownership of open spaces, including Wellington Park and the recreation ground and playing field, welcome new staff which saw its numbers rise to 18 compared with just two part-timers a decade ago, and open its hugely successful Kings Arms Community Hub.
The spokesperson said: “It has been a privilege to work with the community over the past year and we look forward to continuing in 2026.”
They said some of the initiatives the council had in the pipeline for 2026 included:
- Facilities improvements
- Wellington Warm Welcome Cafe
- Environmental improvements
- More activities at the Kings Arms
- Support and engagement with young people
The Kings Arms Community Hub already has a busy list of activities published for 2026, with a winter programme starting on Monday, January 5.
The spokesperson said: “We have a few new groups joining us in 2026, along with the return of those you have become familiar with in 2025.
“We look forward to seeing you in January.”
Among the new groups being hosted in the community hub is the Mental Health Support Team’s (MHST) ‘Tuning into Teens’, which is aimed at fathers with school aged children.
The programme teaches adults to learn how to help teenagers manage feelings such as worry, frustration, and anger, known as ‘emotional intelligence’.
Youngsters with good ‘emotional intelligence’ are known to have better concentration in school, greater success with making and keeping friendships, manage conflict with their peers, and calm down when upset or angry.
The sessions will start on January 15 for six weeks on Thursday mornings from 9 am to 11 am.
Anybody who wants to attend should register their interest online here and somebody will contact them to confirm their space or include them on a waiting list.
