FUNDRAISER Richard Elloway has completed the first week of trying to swim the equivalent distance across the English Channel to raise money for the St Margaret's Hospice in Bishops Hull.
The retired 76-year-old, who lives in Seymour Street, Wellington, has spent six days in the pool at Wellington Sports Centre swimming a total of 390 lengths - which is just over six miles. He hopes to reach his target by the end of this month.
Richard has chosen St Margaret's Hospice because his wife Pamela, now in a care home, spent more than seven weeks in respite care at the hospice following discharge from hospital.
"The hospice gave her wonderful care," said Richard. He has taken on the challenge to raise £3,600 so the hospice can buy an OSKA anti-pressure chair for future patients.
