Somerset County Council wants to resurface High Street from the traffic lights at the junction with Longforth Road as far as Buckwell.
It proposes to completely close the road for six nights from April 25 to May 2, not including the weekend, between 6.30pm and 11.30pm each day.
Cllr John Thorne, a member of Wellington Town Council, who is also one of Wellington’s two county councillors, has asked if the work can be delayed until 7pm each evening.
“High Street and Longforth Road can still be very busy at 6.30pm and allowing another 30 minutes for traffic to clear would help to reduce the number of vehicles using alternative routes through housing estates,” he said.
