SPRING has sprung, and youngsters at Beech Grove Primary School, Wellington are getting ready to grow and eat their own food while recording all the details in a scrapbook that could win them hundreds of pounds worth of prizes.
They have entered the "Dig It, Grow It, Cook It, Eat It" competition organised by the Somerset Waste Action Partnership, the county's rubbish and recycling services provider, and Somerset's leading green charity, the Carymoor Environmental Trust.
And to help their seedlings off to a good start, they are getting ready to dig a tonne of the best recycled compost into their patch, courtesy of SWAP and Carymoor.
The school's scrapbook will be judged against those of other schools across the county in the autumn. Finalists will be invited to a celebrity awards ceremony before the end of the year.
