STAFF at Wiveliscombe care home Pulsford Lodge are celebrating after the results of a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection.
The home was rated ‘Good’ by the social care inspectorate in a report after an unannounced inspection which looked at whether the home’s service was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Pulsford Lodge was given a rating of ‘Good’ for all areas.
CQC spoke with residents at the home during the inspection and it said: “People told us they felt well cared for. One person said ‘If you have to be in a care home you couldn’t do better’.
“Another person said ‘I had no idea what to expect but it wasn’t this. The care, the facilities and staff are excellent. The carers genuinely care. The quality is unbeatable – I couldn’t be better looked after’.”
The report touched on the person-centred care provided at the home and said staff had built lasting relationships with residents.
“People told us they had built positive relationships with staff and said all staff went above and beyond their role to make sure they were comfortable and content. One person said: ‘I don’t sleep well. If I’m unsettled they come and chat to me and bring me warm milk.’
“Another person said ‘I always get a cup of tea at night. It all comes down to staff. You just can’t fault them.’ One person told us about how staff helped them to celebrate special occasions. They said ‘The parties here are wonderful. Everyone gets a birthday cake and they make you feel special.’”
Pulsford Lodge manager Sonya Matthias was awarded the Harry Patch Outstanding Manager Award at the end of 2015.
Commenting on the CQC report, she said: “At Pulsford Lodge we work together to provide a high quality service to our residents, which is highlighted in the positive feedback given in this report from our residents, their relatives and fellow professionals. I’m extremely appreciative of the loyalty and commitment shown by the team to our residents.”
