EIGHTEEN members of Wellington’s Spartan Chamber Gym took on the 4x4x48 Challenge – run four miles every four hours for 48 hours – to raise money for local mental health charity Mind.
The demographic of those taking part varied massively, including a school teacher aged 57 and a 23-year-old serving in the fire brigade.
Across the weekend the gym raised a staggering £6,500 via its JustGiving page.
A gym spokesperson said: “This individual challenge was free to enter and required no kit. All it needed was the grit and determination to complete it.
“In a time where mental health has never been more important and people have never felt more isolated it was great to see everyone really get behind the cause.”
Spartan said that with gyms being shut for seven months over the past year and still not set to open until April 12 it was great to give everyone something to train for.
