THREE generations of the Coles family and friends celebrated the 100th birthday of colourful character Reg Coles at the Beambridge Inn.

During the Second World War Reg joined the Royal Marines and went to Egypt, where he was injured, but continued serving until the war ended.

He returned home and very soon met Connie, who he married on his 30th birthday at Uplowman Church. They farmed at Greedy’s farm, Ashbrittle, had three sons – and in 1963 moved to Williams Farm, Clayhanger, from which he retired in 1984.

Connie and Reg lived in Milverton for several years before moving to Wellington, where Reg still lives.

“Sadly, after many happy years together and numerous gardening and other craft prizes, Connie died in 2015 – but Reg still soldiers on,” said Cindy Poston, for the family. “A great evening was had by all.”
