Results come from the consistent practise of a skill. Leading a healthy lifestyle is a skill which needs to be learned and practised again and again. It is through this consistent practise that we learn what works and what doesn’t work. Things that work we continue with, things that don’t work we learn from and correct it next time in order to create a different outcome – that’s how improvements are made.

Think about learning to drive a car. At first it’s scary and you don’t know what to do. Many mistakes are made but hopefully you learn from them and correct them over time. After a while these skills become second nature and within time you practise these skills subconsciously without much thought. Learning to lead a healthy lifestyle is no different –be consistent and learn from your mistakes, changes will come if you stick with it.

Tied into this comes accountability. To be consistent you need to be accountable to someone or something. In our above driving example you would be accountable to your driving instructor or parent who would help and guide you through correcting any errors until they become subconscious skills. To lead a healthy lifestyle you need to find someone or something that keeps you accountable. Some people use phone apps or trackers for nutrition and exercise, some go to groups, some have their own one-to-one coaches. Find which helps you to stay consistent and achieve results – everyone’s different but trial and error should help you to find yours.

So keep this in mind:

Results requires consistency

Consistency requires accountability

Who/what keeps you accountable?
