South West Fishing for Life is inviting women suffering or recovering from breast cancer to learn a new hobby – fly-fishing.

The first of 11 groups running across the country was started on Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor and it now meets on the first Sunday of the month from 9.30am-12.30pm.

The monthly sessions are free thanks to the coaches and volunteers who give their time each month.

In normal times, a soup lunch gives participants a chance to sit and chat, and make new friends with like-minded people. Now everyone takes their own picnic and follows Government social distancing guidelines.

During winter, the group usually meets up for fly-tying and lunch – but not this winter. Instead, members keep in touch through the Zoom video conferencing platform.

Even if life is not back to normal next year, the group will meet again when the fishing season starts up, as long as the Government permits.
