THE Holcombe Rogus village fete on Saturday (July 10) was a huge success and more than 700 people attended during the day.
The fete was held within the grounds of Holcombe Court and raised £6,500 – even though Covid-19 restrictions meant that a number of activities such as children’s games and country dancing from Webber’s School could not take place.
But Tiverton Town Band played for the crowd - the fete was its first ‘gig’ in a long time.
Holcombe Court, rated by Pevsner as ‘perhaps the finest Tudor house in Devon’, is rarely open to the public.
Michael Brooke-Webb, the fete organiser, said the feedback was universally positive.
“Certainly everyone who passed me on the way out said what a lovely afternoon they’d had,” he said.
“The Parochial Church Council is hugely grateful for the support we get and we also owe a big thank you to Nigel Wiggins who lends us Holcombe Court and its splendid gardens each year.”
