NYNEHEAD bronze medallist Ed Ling has been back on his farm this week after the biggest success of his shooting career.

Ed, 33, won a shoot-off against David Kostelecky, of the Czech Republic, 13-9, for third place in the trap event at the Rio Olympics last week despite a wobble at the start when he missed the first target.

BBC viewers watched the event live and Ed kept his cool to win his first ever medal at an Olympics, and only GB’s third medal of the Games.

Family and close family members, all eager to see his medal, welcomed him home.

Ed said: “My dad and family have been a huge influence on me and I am also delighted for them.”

Abbey added: “We are all so proud of him – it’s a fantastic achievement. We had the family round to watch it. We were so nervous. Ed is over the moon.”

His coach and dad Steven said: “He’s been shooting unbelievably for the last 14 months. Last year he won every single event he entered. He has just been phenomenal – his head is very, very strong.”

He said his son had been focused on Olympic success – but was also keen to make sure things were okay at home on the farm.
