MEMBERS of the Wellington Friends Group of Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) are taking a well-earned rest after 18 years of fundraising and coining in £266,000.

They have organised a range of functions from coffee mornings, fashion shows, bridge days and cream teas to a popular barn dance held annually at the Rugby Club.

The group held a final coffee morning at the home of Jane and Terry Dickins last Thursday, the same venue as the setting for their first event 18 years ago.

Committee members were delighted to welcome Eddie Farwell MBE, who with his late wife Jill founded the first CHSW at Fremington, near Barnstaple.

Eddie thanked the group for their dedication and hard work over the years and wished members well in their retirement. He presented founder and group chairman Wendy Pollard with a gift to commemorate her service.

Many local people who have supported the group over the years were also among the guests.

Wendy thanked everyone present for their support and interest over the years, and recorded her thanks to the many organisations which have donated generously, including local businesses, schools, pubs, clubs, churches and banks.

She hoped CHSW, which has three children’s hospices in the South-West, would continue to receive support for many years ahead.
