A TOTAL of £500 was raised for the Save Milverton Action Group which is campaigning against a proposed housing development on the edge of the village.

The money was raised from the sale of artwork produced by local artists at an exhibition in July last year highlighting the threatened development at Creedwell Orchard.

The works went under the hammer at an auction at The Globe in the village, when, after a slow start, excitement gave way to brisk bidding, with even telephone bids coming in.

Of the 40 lots for sale 28 reached or exceded their reserve prices, and some £1,800 changed hands.
