THE government’s schools inspectorate Ofsted has St John’s Primary School in Wellington a glowing report.

Following a visit by inspectors just before half-term, Ofsted has produced a report declaring St John’s to be a ‘good school’.

Among the report’s key findings were:

n The quality of teaching is good

n Behaviour in lessons and attitudes to learning are good. Pupils are polite and helpful

n Outcomes for all pupils have improved significantly throughout the school

n Children make an excellent start to their education in early years

n The school’s work to support disadvantaged pupils is effective

This week the school’s head boy and head girl have been leading pupils and staff in celebrating St John’s success.

Head girl Ula Malinowska said: “I enjoy learning all my subjects and have made great progress since reception year. The teachers are encouraging and are always there to help. I am really pleased that Ofsted agree and have judged the school as good.”

Head boy Ethan Whale has been going to St. John’s since Year 4 and said: “Before I came to St John’s I was nervous about joining a new school. From my first visit and meeting with Mr Jones, our head teacher, I was made to feel welcome and settled in really quickly.

“Mr Jones and the rest of the staff work really hard to give pupils the best opportunity. It’s great that Ofsted agree and we can shout about our good school.”

Head teacher Gareth Jones said the outstanding achievements which had led to the Ofsted report were a true team effort. He added: “I would like to thank everyone for their support. The improvements that have taken place have only happened because of the full support of the parents, the governing body, the hard work of the children and the dedication and expertise of the staff.

“I am incredibly proud of the whole school community. We should also recognise that this is the next stepping stone on our school’s journey, there is still much to do and challenges ahead. This is an exciting time for the school and I look forward to continuing our success in the coming years.”
