SAM Cunningham, owner of Wet and Wild in Fore Street, Wellington, is involved in a fight to keep his fish shop open following a personal accident resulting in three prolapsed disks.

Sam, a former assistant on Saturdays in Don Jones’ shop in Cornhill which was destroyed by fire in 2008, has been forced to rest and cut down opening hours at his fresh fish and game shop.

He said: “I’ve been told that if I have an operation I’ll be out for seven months – and that will mean I have to close the shop. I’ve now given myself eight weeks of rest to see if my back improves.

“I’ve decided to open three full days a week – on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 5pm – to give me four days of complete rest.

“I hope you all understand and I am very sorry for the disruption to service.

“I hope it won’t be for too long and then it will be business as usual.”
