DOZENS of descendants of a former key keeper of Wellington Monument came from as far away as the USA, Wales and the West Midlands to celebrate their family link.

James Richards, of Monument Farm, Wellington, was key keeper from 1890 and remained in office for 50 years.

More than 100 descendants, some meeting for the first time, found out more about their ancestry, although more is still to be learned from those unable to attend.

Derek Johnson and Irene Sparks are continuing to trace other relatives and would like to hear from anyone who has new information about James Richards or his descendants.

Mr Johnson’s email address is [email protected]
