A lorry driver using his mobile phone was stopped by police on the M5 near Wellington.

Officers from the Devon and Cornwall force pulled over the kitchen delivery driver travelling southbound at Burlescombe, between Wellington and Tiverton.

They then discovered he was a learner driver and had no insurance.

A statement from the force said the vehicle was seized and the driver and company were reported for offences.

Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team gave an update about the incident on Twitter, and reported there had been a similar incident the day before.

They said: "The driver of this vehicle was using his phone whilst on the southbound M5 at Burlescombe.

"Turns out he is only a provisional licence holder, and has no insurance. Delivering kitchens!! Had the same thing yesterday too. Vehicle seized and driver/company reported 14300".
