CHILDREN in Year 6 at Beech Grove Primary School in Wellington visited the council chamber last week to find out more about the Mayor of Wellington and the town council.

They learnt about the role of the Mayor, her robes and chain, the work of the town council and its officers. Pupils were told about twinning, the town crest and the relevance of the symbols in the town’s history.

Some 45 pupils asked questions about Wellington and issues the council discusses. They were were presented with folders to start off their Civic Award.
