TWO fire engines from Wellington were mobilised after reports of a large stone crushing machine on fire at White Ball Quarry, Gipsy Lane, White Ball on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised at 5.41pm and on arrival crews confirmed the vehicle was well alight in the quarry.

Fire fighters wearing breathing sets put the fire out with a hose reel jet and a main jet. Some 50% of the machine was damaged in the fire, which was said to have been accidental.
