WELLINGTON Majorettes performed for the last time this year at the town’s Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday.

Earlier in the day members visited SeeAbilty dressed in festive costumes to bring residents some Christmas cheer.

The team, currently 46 boys and girls aged from three, have performed at 25 events throughout the year, ranging from local community occasions such as Wellington Street Fair, Wellington Park Spring Fair and the Wellington Boot Championship, to events further afield such as Axebridge Blackberry Carnival and Porlock Carnival – the latter is always a favourite with a stop-off for tea in McDonald’s in Minehead on the way home.

Last weekend the team were awarded £2,084.89p from the Co-op Community Fund.  Members joined in the Wellington supermarket’s celebration day, the band playing all morning outside the store, while younger members accompanied by parents sold raffle tickets. The team raised a further £297.

Troupe leader Louise Brierley said: “We are truly grateful to the Co-op and the people of Wellington who have supported us. We will be purchasing a trailer in the New Year to make it easier to transport all our uniforms and equipment when attending events. However, we still have a little more fundraising to do to get exactly what we require.”

The next event planned for the team is a Christmas bingo on Friday (December 8) at Court Fields School, eyes down at 7pm. The team will then be treated the following week to a party and presentation following all their hard work throughout 2017.

New members will be welcome to join the team in January. For more details contact Louise on 07796 933064 or e-mail [email protected]
