THE Wellington-based Somerset Red Arrow Majorettes are looking for new members.
The group was formed in 1976 and named after the Red Arrows aerobatic display team – majorettes have been to see them a few times.
The majorettes used to be a military troupe with a band but have now changed to dance with batons as they have a lot of smaller girls and the instruments were too heavy.
The group has 20 girls aged two to 16 and is self-funding doing as much fundraising as possible to keep going. The majorettes perform displays at fetes, shows and fairs, and take part in carnivals.

We also go to elderly people’s homes and do displays for them, which they really enjoy – and we enjoy performing for them as well.”
The trainers are Stacey Fenton and Chloe Fenton, who put a lot of time and hard work into teaching the youngsters their dance routines.
The majorettes train at the Baptist church hall in South Street, Wellington, on Monday from 6-7.30pm.
The spokesperson added: “We are now recruiting – if interested please come along on a Monday night to see what we do. Parents are welcome to stay and watch.”
