THE Springfield and Riverside Street Fair, being staged next month, is a big draw every year, with colourful stalls, wandering musicians, children’s games and a pop-up café.
There’s a make-do and mend, home-made feel to the festival which people love.
Last year, bunting made out of T-shirts and strung on a washing line across the street brought a smile to everyone’s face. This year the residents are planning for bunting galore – the more creative, the better.
At the street fair, visitors will find potted plants, cakes and biscuits, secondhand goods, crafts and bric-a-brac stalls, as well artworks and cards by local artists and photographers.
It is a great place to meet friends and share a cup of tea at Gibby Swaine’s popular pop-up cafe on Riverside.
Everyone parks their cars off road and for one Sunday morning a year the place is transformed into a pedestrian- and child-friendly playground, with stalls set up outside the houses and kids playing happily all along the street.
This year the fair, on Sunday, June 9, from 10am-1.30pm, will feature music from the Ukes of Wellington and others. ANITA ROY
