A Wellington fundraiser, who has boosted charity coffers by more than £5,500 during the pandemic, is now branching out.

Jeanette Bird’s face masks have been sold to people all over the UK and even abroad.

But demand has fallen slightly since Covid restrictions were eased and so Jeanette has turned her attention to making bunting.

She has a range of designs for the forthcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations and is also making bespoke bunting for special occasions - birthday parties, anniversaries etc.

Jeanette, who has already sold out of bunting for next month’s St Patrick’s Day, started making face masks for herself and her family as the effects of Covid-19 began to strike two years ago.

But things snowballed when she then decided to make them for worthy causes.

Most of the money raised by Jeanette has gone to St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice but she has also boosted the coffers of the Royal British Legion by making poppy masks during Remembrance and of Comic Relief.

Her Christmas bunting proved a sell-out success with a number of town centre businesses among those displaying her handiwork.

Jeanette is still making masks and has a wide selection of designs and shapes.

Last year, she was among those who received a Somerset Medal from the county council for serving the community during the pandemic.

"I really enjoy giving something back at what has been such a difficult time and would like to thank everyone who has bought masks or bunting," she said.

"I’d also like to give a massive thank-you to Tim Potter Family Butchers, which has been selling masks since I started and is still doing a roaring trade."

Anyone wishing to buy masks - only £1 each or a donation to the hospice - or bunting - price dependent on content - can call or text Jeanette on 07712 575668 or 07555 102683.
