THE first bank holiday of May dawned sunny and dry for the ever popular Milverton Fair.
Despite a last-minute call for volunteers to support the annual event, it went ahead on the village recreation field on May 4 as planned.
Fair entertainment included Morris and Maypole dancing, the Silver Street Band, a Punch and Judy show, children’s races and games, and steam engines provided by local enthusiasts. A raffle draw also offered cash prizes and lunch for two from local food writer William Sitwell at his The White Hart in Wiveliscombe.

Organisers, The Milverton Trust, said: “What a fantastic day we had at this year’s Milverton Fair.
“With over 1,400 attendees, it was wonderful to see the recreation ground full of families, friends and neighbours enjoying the sunshine, the atmosphere and everything the Fair had to offer.

“The children’s games were a real highlight, with lots of happy winners throughout the day. Our stallholders were amazing, bringing such a brilliant mix of crafts, produce, food, activities and community spirit.
“From the live music and family fun to the food, stalls and relaxed Bank Holiday atmosphere, it was a great day out for all ages and a lovely celebration of village life.”

They added: “A huge thank you goes to all the volunteers who gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to help make the event happen. Events like this simply would not be possible without you.
“Thank you also to everyone who came along, supported the Fair and helped make it such a success. We look forward to seeing you again at future Milverton Trust events.”
The Milverton Trust is a registered charity run by local volunteers. It raises funds and awards grants to help community groups, and local volunteers make great things happen in Milverton.
